Hello there! I am so excited to be a personal trainer with For U Fitness! Let’s start with my background and how I became a trainer.

Growing up, I was always active. Whether it was in sports or just playing with my friends and neighbors. I also had an older brother who was very athletic, so it was my goal to be better than him or at least keep up with him! We are a bit of a competitive family.

Throughout my childhood, it never crossed my mind whether I was having a healthy lifestyle or not. You don’t have to worry about that when your mom makes all your meals and you’re participating in three hours of sports every night after school. But as soon as I got to college, things started to change for me.

Living in the dorms freshman year wasn’t ideal for staying healthy. It was far too easy to call up dominos at 11pm. I quickly saw the pounds packing on, even though I continued to work out four times a week. I found out fast that riding the elliptical for an hour everyday while still eating whatever I wanted, wasn’t going to cut it! By this time, I had tried all the fad diets and supplements, but they obviously weren’t working. So I decided to get a personal trainer myself. However, I just wasn’t the most motivated and the trainer failed at keeping me accountable. I knew I had to take matters into my own hands.

From that point on, I became obsessed with having a healthy lifestyle and finding the right workouts for me. I have experienced the trainer who doesn’t challenge you or care about what I like to do. I have spent way too much money and tried too many pointless diet that would make me lose 10 lbs. in one week, only to gain it back a month later. All of these experiences helped shape my desire to become a personal trainer. I want to give a good name back to personal trainers. I want to be an amazing accountability partner. I want to create workouts that match my client’s frequency, intensity, time, and type while also being enjoyable! I found my passion while struggling with weight and it’s my goal to help others turn health and fitness into their passion too.

Q&A with Allison

Why do you enjoy training?

I enjoy training because I have been where most of my clients have been, so I know the struggle. I believe that there is much more to being overweight, overeating, or lack of motivation. I want to help my clients find the why to these problems! It’s so fulfilling to make a connection with someone and help them overcome stress, find healthy habits, and actually enjoy workouts while making them convenient.

Favorite things to do?
Being in Portland, it’s so fun to be able to hike a new spot every weekend and get a great workout in or in the summer enjoy Sauvie Island beach or float down the river. However, being able to curl up on the coach with my dog and boyfriend while binge watching movies is one of my top choices as well. I would choose a good movie over going out on the town any night.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by people who overcome challenges and stay strong while going through them! It’s so easy to give up and settle for less, but the individuals that push through are truly inspiring

Greatest accomplishment?
I love to make goals for myself that people doubt and then prove them wrong. It was a big goal of mine to graduate college in three years. I transferred to a new college after my freshman year and ended up changing my major three times. It took hard work and a lot of focus, but I ultimately accomplished my goal and I’m very proud of that.
