Say Hello To Lily!  | For U Fitness

Hi everyone! My name is Lily and I am a NASM certified personal trainer and certified Spinning instructor. I currently just moved to McKinney, TX from Michigan and am loving the sunshine and variety of workouts the DFW metroplex has to offer. Outside of the gym, I enjoy hiking, traveling, cooking, being with family, practicing yoga, and listening to a good podcast. I have been a group fitness instructor for almost four years now and decided to become a personal trainer to help individuals reach their physical and mental goals on a more personalized level. I am looking forward to helping you reach your fitness and health goals!

Q&A WITH LILY

Why do you enjoy personal training?

I enjoying personal training because I believe it gives me the opportunity to get to know someone on a more personal level and it allows that person to get to know and trust me with helping them reach the fitness level they are striving for. I believe that communication and trust are two very important components of a trainer-athlete relationship and when those are in sync, results will be seen.

What  is your favorite vacation spot?

My favorite vacation spot is anywhere in northern Michigan. Whether it’s being on the beach on a sunny day, running a 10k, or finding a new brewery, northern Michigan has so much to offer and I will never get tired of it!

What is the most important thing to you?

The most important thing to me is my health, both physical health and mental health. Of course I love my family and they are very important to me, but if I am not healthy, it is hard to be present and able to show up for the people I love!

What is your favorite sport and why?

My favorite sport is basketball. I grew up playing at a very competitive level (3x AAU state champs woot woot!!) and I believe that a lot of skills I have learned over the years started with being on a specific team. Learning how to communicate, work with others, and being able to trust are some examples. Although I don’t play anymore due to repeated injuries, it is still a sport I enjoy watching.

What drives you to be the best at what you do?

What drives me to be my best is knowing that the effort I put it will be reflected in my work. I love learning about the body and even though it is not easy, knowing how your own personal machine works is pretty cool! Constantly obtaining new knowledge allows me to apply it to training sessions with clients. It’s one thing to do a movement, but it’s another thing to understand why we do such movement, what muscles are firing, and what results we can expect to see and feel with consistent repetition.

If I could do anything, bucket list number one, what would it be?

I want to go to Bora Bora for a vacation and stay in one of those villas over the ocean... one perfect week of relaxation please!

What is the importance of physical fitness in your life?

For me, being active as a kid was a way to maintain a healthy weight but as I got older I realized the other benefits unrelated to the scale that fitness brought me. It gave me a sense of community whether it was on a basketball team or in a group fitness class. It also provided me with the opportunity to acknowledge that I am not perfect, but can make progress with consistent effort. Nothing is better than a good sweat and seeing your body and mind grow stronger over time.

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?

I would say that so far in my life my greatest accomplishment has been becoming a certified Spinning instructor. This training not only gave me the tools to teach classes and build meaningful relationships, but it also has given me the confidence to continue my training to become a CPT to be able to help more people on a more personal level!
