'Tis The Season ... Holiday Survival Tip #2

Holiday parties, tempting food, and festive drinks … ‘Tis The Season!  From now until the end of the year we will share some tips to help you enjoy this wonderful time of the year with your friends and family AND keep your healthy living goals on track!

Tip #2

Manage Portion Size

Use smaller plates and serving utensils. Try a salad or dessert plate for the main course.

When scooping food take half of what the serving spoon holds.  What looks like a normal portion on a 12-inch plate or an average serving spoon can, in fact, be sinfully huge.

Pour drinks into tall, skinny glasses, not the fat, wide kind.  Other studies at Cornell have shown that people are more likely to pour 30 percent more liquid into squatter vessels!  Who knew!  Before you go plan on how many drinks you will have and attempt to stick to it the best you can!

The bottom line is if you start small and feel the need for more you at least have the decision to make versus going all out at the start and regretting it after.  Pace yourself and watch your portions.  You can taste everything if you do it right ... you do not have to miss out on the pleasure of all the goodies, you just have to taste them all in the right proportion.
